Training

Tie-Dye Drama offers training to staff members who work with young people. This training is particularly targeted at those at the start of their career, or those who would benefit from specific, continued professional development (CPD).

Our facilitators have 10+ years experience working as teachers and facilitators within mainstream and special educational needs schools, settings and charities.

Our pre-planned training sessions include:

Integrating drama and play into practise: Looking to liven up a particular lesson or theme? We teach you 10+ games and methods to bring your activities alive! Our favourite is Islands of Importance: a question and respond task which gets young people moving, choosing and chatting!

Exploring playful behaviour management: Tired of the same old techniques? Not sure how to approach a new group of young people? We will create specific management tools to work with your group of young people. Call and response, extrinsic vs intrinsic rewards… we’ll cover it all and find some solutions for managing your groups!

Using role-play to examine work challenges and to trial solutions: Learning on the job… in a safe space. We will set up environments and scenarios similar to your workplace. We will talk or act out challenges and their potential solutions.

Just like with our sessions for young people, we tailor our training packages to suit individual and group strengths and needs. We’re aware that the concept of using drama for some can be intimidating and cringe. Watching grown adults in suits transition into 6 year olds trying to balance pencils on their head? Believe us, we’ve been there… With our experience and inclusive approach, we will lead sessions that you and your colleagues will find extremely beneficial, relevant and engaging.

Don’t see a topic you’d like? Contact us so we can create a bespoke package for you and your staff.

A typical training breakdown would look like this:

  1. Introduction: purpose and aims of the day (from the perspective of TDD and participants),  outline of the session content

  2. Facilitator leads themed activities/techniques that participants could use with their young people. Participants reflect the activities’ merits and challenges on the Tie-Dye Drama worksheet. They choose one activity that they will use with their young people and plan this into a session with them.

  3. Participants are split into groups. They facilitate an activity/technique for their fellow participants.  The facilitators reflect on successes and challenges.

  4. Explore any questions or comments that have arisen during the session

  5. Reflection on today’s learning.
