Training the next wave of Tie-Dyers

Hello from the Tie-Dye troopers! So the exciting news has been announced: Sri Lanka will be Tie-Dyed once again! We are thrilled to be sending another group of four fantastic ladies (Amy, Tasha, Tasmin and Emily) to continue our social drama project with the brilliant students at Tea Leaf Vision. What an exciting moment for Tie-Dye Drama.

We’re handing over the reigns for this project to four capable Manchester University drama graduates to provide them with an opportunity to gain their own professional development skills in facilitating and managing their own applied drama project. We just can’t wait to hear all about what they’ve learnt and no doubt their own workshop tips and ideas for us!

We ran facilitation and cultural training for the new Tie-Dye facilitators and had a great weekend sharing (rather zealously) information, tips and stories to prepare them for their September trip. Covering potential themes and challenges that might arise in Sri Lanka, we then challenged them to deliver their own workshop sessions. They had no problem rising to the challenge and delivered engaging and sensitive sessions that will go down a storm with the young people at Tea Leaf Vision.

Tim Pare, the director of Tea Leaf Vision, came in to talk with us all. His humble and honest words about how and why he set up the charity really reinforced everyone’s belief in the power of education in helping young people to lead a successful and positive life. We feel privileged to be able to work with and send our facilitators to such a fantastic charity.

The 2015 Social Drama project will follow the same key aims of our initial project in 2014: developing the self-esteem and English ability of participants, providing a safe space to explore some of the most challenging and painful social issues in their community, and allowing participants to develop and perform their own social drama pieces on stage in front of a large audience. We know these four will do Tie-Dye Drama and Manchester University proud with all their enthusiasm and energy.

Keep up to date with their adventures via their Blog !
